BAKU, October 27, 2026: The Embassy of Pakistan in Baku, Azerbaijan, organized a special ceremony to observe Kashmir Black Day, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its support for their inalienable right to self-determination.

The event commemorated October 27, 1947, when Indian troops landed in Srinagar, marking the beginning of what Pakistan describes as India’s occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of civil society, think tanks, print and electronic media, members of the Pakistani community, Azerbaijani intellectuals, students and friends of Pakistan.

Messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar were read out on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in Baku, Sarah Ejaz, reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the Kashmiri people and its continued support for their inalienable right to self-determination.

She expressed serious concern over persistent human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), particularly following India’s unilateral actions on August 5, 2019, when Articles 370 and 35-A of the Indian Constitution were revoked.

She highlighted arbitrary arrests, extrajudicial killings, restrictions on media and communication, and attempts to alter the demographic composition of the occupied territory.

Sarah Ejaz emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute and that unilateral actions cannot change its disputed status or undermine the legitimate right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination, as recognized under relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and international law.

She also appreciated Azerbaijan’s principled and consistent support for the Kashmir cause.

A photographic exhibition was also organized at the Embassy, highlighting India’s occupation, serious human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the suffering of the Kashmiri people and their ongoing struggle for the right to self-determination.

Participants expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir and reaffirmed their support for their fundamental rights and legitimate aspirations.
