Plea to Suspend Detention Notifications of Imran Khan’s Sisters Uzma and Noreen Rejected, Notices Issued

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has issued notices to the relevant parties and sought their responses on petitions challenging the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sisters, Dr Uzma Khanum and Noreen Niazi. However, the court rejected the request to immediately suspend the detention notifications.

Justice Abher Gul Khan heard the petitions filed by Dr Uzma Khanum, Noreen Niazi and other petitioners. Advocates Rana Mudassar Umar and Barrister Taimur appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioners, while Farukh Lodhi represented the Punjab government.

During the hearing, the court observed that reports could be sought from the relevant parties. Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar told the court that both women were homemakers.

The counsel further submitted that Dr Uzma Khanum had already been declared innocent in a case registered against her, adding that a copy of the trial court’s decision had also been attached to the petition.

The counsel for Dr Uzma Khanum requested the court to allow him a brief opportunity to present arguments seeking suspension of the detention notification. Rana Mudassar Umar also said that he wanted to bring certain facts before the court.

The petitioners have requested the Lahore High Court to declare the detention notification issued by the deputy commissioner null and void.

Noreen Niazi’s daughter Sakina, along with other petitioners, has also filed petitions against the detention orders through Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar.
