LAHORE (special crosspondent) – Pakistan’s designate High Commissioner to Tanzania, Hasnain Yousaf, held a high-level meeting with the President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, to formulate strategies for enhancing bilateral economic cooperation. The dialogue focused on tapping into emerging African markets to bolster Pakistan’s export landscape, with participants including Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed, Vice President Khurram Lodhi, and Executive Committee Member Nadeem Ansari.

Expanding Export Horizons in Africa

LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol emphasized that prioritizing new and emerging markets is a strategic necessity for the national economy. He noted that the African continent represents a rapidly expanding market for Pakistani industrial goods, particularly in sectors such as automotive parts and engineering machinery. The discussion echoed broader national efforts, similar to Finance Minister Aurangzeb’s recent focus on industrial modernization, aimed at diversifying the country’s export basket.

Strategic Shifts in Workforce and Remittances

Addressing the current reliance on traditional labor markets, Saigol remarked that nearly 60 percent of Pakistan’s total remittances are sourced from Gulf nations. He argued that shifting regional dynamics necessitate the exploration of alternative markets to stabilize foreign exchange inflows. Beyond physical goods, he highlighted the substantial potential for exporting skilled Pakistani professionals to Africa, which could serve as a sustainable driver for remittance growth. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader interest in expanding global partnerships, much like the strategic energy and investment discussions involving Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.

Commitment to Trade Facilitation

In response, designate High Commissioner Hasnain Yousaf acknowledged the critical role of the Lahore Chamber in national economic development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening business-to-business links and pledged to assist the LCCI in organizing single-country exhibitions in Tanzania to showcase Pakistani products. Yousaf reiterated that Africa presents an untapped frontier for Pakistani companies and assured the business community that his mission would focus on facilitating trade, investment, and employment opportunities for the workforce. As the nation explores international integration, the advocacy by Chairman Gilani for stronger parliamentary and economic ties remains a key pillar of Pakistan’s evolving foreign economic policy.
