Pakistan PM to Visit Kyrgyzstan from Aug 31 to Sept 2, Assume SCO Chairmanship

ISLAMABAD, August 31: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will undertake a three-day official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic from August 31 to September 2, 2026, at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov.

The Prime Minister will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting and the SCO Plus Summit in Bishkek. During the visit, Pakistan will assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026–2027.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders of participating countries on the sidelines of the SCO engagements. He will attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games in Bishkek on August 31.

On September 2, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with President Sadyr Zhaparov to review the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations and explore avenues for further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The two leaders are expected to focus particularly on trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. They will also exchange views on regional and international developments of mutual interest and cooperation at regional and multilateral forums.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar and senior officials.

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan enjoy warm and fraternal relations based on shared history, faith and cultural affinity, as well as common aspirations for peace, connectivity and prosperity in Central and South Asia.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity to consolidate the momentum generated by recent high-level exchanges, translate political goodwill into enhanced practical cooperation and further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.
