Pakistani flight attendant guilty of smuggling counterfeit CBSA passport stamps

Toronto: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant has been found guilty of smuggling two counterfeit Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) port stamps, although the court remains no closer to determining why the fake stamps were hidden in her suitcase.

According to The Toronto Star, 46-year-old Hina Sani was arrested in 2024 after two counterfeit border stamps were discovered in her baggage.

The stamps are used to certify a person’s entry into Canada and establish that the individual entered the country legally.

Sani told the court that the stamps were among items she was bringing to Canada for an acquaintance. However, airport security authorities routinely warn passengers against carrying items belonging to other people in their luggage because doing so can lead to serious legal consequences.

During the court proceedings, it remained unclear where the counterfeit CBSA stamps had been obtained, what they were intended to be used for, or whether any wider international network was involved in the case.

The case has raised concerns about the potential misuse of Canadian border and immigration documentation, particularly because the stamps can be used as evidence of lawful entry into Canada.
