Local Government Elections Ordered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Excluding 12 Tribal Districts
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered the holding of local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, excluding the province’s 12 tribal districts.
A five-member bench of the Election Commission announced its reserved verdict, directing the relevant wing to submit the election schedule. Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja read out the decision.
According to the verdict, local government elections will be held in districts where delimitation has already been completed. However, neither delimitation nor local government elections will be conducted in the 12 tribal districts at this stage.
The Election Commission also directed the relevant authorities to issue a delimitation schedule for districts where the process has not yet been completed.
The concerned wing has been instructed to take the necessary steps and submit the proposed election schedule for further proceedings.
