PM directs measures to further strengthen modern policing system

ISLAMABAD, Sep 08: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday appreciating Islamabad Police for adopting modern technology, promoting green policing and taking measures for the protection of citizens, directed that all necessary measures be taken to further strengthen and make the modern policing system more effective.

The prime minister was speaking at a ceremony, where he attended the handing over of 50 electric vehicles (EVs) to Islamabad Police for promoting modern, safe and environment-friendly policing.

The keys of the electric vehicles were handed over to Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General of Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry and other relevant officials also attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said protection of the lives and property of citizens was the government’s top priority.

He said the government was providing all possible resources to Islamabad Police to bring policing in line with modern requirements.

The prime minister appreciated the performance of the interior minister in modernizing Islamabad Police.

He said Islamabad Police should serve as a role model for other cities across the country and be equipped with modern technology, equipment and other necessary resources to provide a safe environment to citizens in the federal capital.

The prime minister said the provision of new electric vehicles to Islamabad Police was aimed at promoting environment-friendly and green policing. He said the use of modern technology would further improve police performance and services provided to citizens.

On the occasion, the inspector general of Islamabad Police gave the prime minister a detailed briefing about the newly established “Capital Patrol” force, set up for the security of the federal capital.

The prime minister was informed that the new force had been established in line with his vision of a safe, smart and green capital and would comprise 200 police personnel.

Each patrol unit of the Capital Patrol force would consist of one male and one female police officer. Motorcycle-riding police personnel would also be part of the force to ensure rapid response and effective patrolling in different areas.

The prime minister was further informed that all personnel of the Capital Patrol force would be equipped with body cameras to improve transparency, monitoring and accountability in the policing process.

The briefing was informed that 50 electric vehicles had been provided for the Capital Patrol force. The vehicles would run on electricity, significantly reducing fuel costs while also having a positive impact on the environment.

The prime minister was informed that the use of the new electric vehicles would result in monthly savings of approximately Rs 34 million in fuel costs. The cost of each vehicle would be recovered through fuel savings in approximately 10.5 months.
