Over 2.12 Million Smart Electricity Meters Inetalled, LESCO Leads

ISLAMABAD: More than 2.12 million smart electricity meters have so far been installed across the networks of power distribution companies throughout Pakistan, with Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) leading the country in installations.

According to a written reply submitted by the Ministry of Energy in the Senate, a total of 2,125,296 smart meters have been installed across the country.

LESCO has installed the highest number, with 1,153,556 smart meters in its network.

The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) has installed 348,135 smart meters, followed by Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) with 229,719 and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) with 119,372 meters.

Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has installed 111,948 smart meters, Peshawar Electric Power Company (PESCO) 60,685, while K-Electric has installed 50,599.

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has installed 19,620 smart meters, Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) 13,432 and Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) 9,194.

Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO) has installed 7,659 smart meters, while Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO) has the lowest number, with 1,377 installations.

The Ministry of Energy said the installation of smart meters would help improve monitoring of electricity consumption, enhance transparency in meter readings and modernize the country’s power distribution system.

The technology is expected to provide more effective monitoring of electricity usage and improve the availability of consumption data, contributing to greater efficiency and transparency in the power sector.
