Pak-Azerbaijan Direct Flights Boost Tourism as Pakistani Visitors Exceed 90,000: Ambassador Qasim Mohiuddin

BAKU, September 3: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin has said that growing transportation, aviation and logistics links between Pakistan and Azerbaijan have significantly contributed to increased tourism and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

Talking to AZERTAC, the ambassador said that over the past couple of years, Pakistan and Azerbaijan had witnessed an unprecedented expansion in transportation linkages, particularly in commercial aviation and logistics.

He said two Pakistani airlines, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Airblue, along with Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), operate multiple direct flights connecting Islamabad and Lahore with Baku.

“For all practical purposes, there is a direct flight almost every day between our countries,” the ambassador said, adding that the convenient air connectivity had contributed significantly to the growth of tourism.

According to Qasim Mohiuddin, the number of Pakistani tourists visiting Azerbaijan exceeded 90,000 last year, reflecting the growing popularity of Azerbaijan as a destination for Pakistani travellers.

On land transportation, the ambassador highlighted the importance of the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Transit Trade Agreement (TTA), saying it provides a fast and cost-effective land corridor for the transit and transportation of goods.

He explained that available land-route options between Pakistan and Azerbaijan pass either through Iran or Afghanistan, onward to Turkmenistan, and then to Azerbaijan via the Caspian Sea.

The ambassador expressed hope that with the situation in Iran stabilizing, the flow of goods through this trade corridor would increase further, strengthening connectivity and facilitating greater bilateral trade.
